The Star, Alfriston

Built in the 1260's, The Star Alfriston is a historic hotel (one of England's oldest) in the Tudor village of Alfriston, East Sussex, nestled between Brighton and Eastbourne, at the base of the South Downs National Park. The hotel's history brings with it a charm and character that truly make it a unique property.

We have 37 well-appointed bedrooms, two of which are feature rooms from the original building, which is over 800 years old. We have a bar and restaurant, and 2 fully-equipped meeting rooms, along with a car park with 35 spaces. The staff and management are a fun, interesting and vibrant group of people who come from all walks of life and enjoy the hotel and taking care of its guests. In our bar, we feature two fantastic ales from local Sussex breweries in Horsham and at East Dean.

The village of Alfriston is like taking a step back in time, and is both a very popular tourist destination and local gem. The hotel always has an interesting mix of guests: tourists from Europe and America, walking groups who come to walk the South Downs, opera enthusiasts who come to go to Glyndebourne, as well as families (Drusilla's Animal Park is just down the road), groups of friends and couples who want to spend the weekend in a character property and historic surround. We also host weddings as we have two rooms licensed for civil ceremonies. Other functions also take place such as wakes, afternoon teas, special dinner functions (one of our function rooms is also in the older part of the hotel and provides a very special setting). This could be for groups such as legions, family celebrations or simply local businesses using the hotel for networking functions and quiz nights. We are renowned for our delicious Sunday lunch in our Capella Restaurant, which uses locally sourced Sussex produce, in all our menus.
